About us

Welsh Contemporary is an independent record label, launched in 2011. For the first time music by the many diverse composers living and working in Wales will be available worldwide.

The impetus to start up the label came from two composers with a track record in music production (Ian Lawson and Ben Heneghan), and the organization Cyfansoddwyr Cymru/Composers of Wales.

The inaugural project, in association with CC/CW, is a series of six CDs with the aim of representing as many composers as possible, making the set an unprecedented snapshot of musical creativity in Wales today.

Underpinning Welsh Contemporary is a recording facility managed by Andrew Lawson. It is ideally equipped for acoustic recordings in the studio or on location.

In a change of direction following a fulfilling career in special education, Fiona Lawson has taken on the role of label manager.
